The mission of the Smart Cards and RFID Group is to use the existing, proven core competency of MERDCI in design of smart cards and RFID in order to offer a wider array of services for support of customers in relevant smart card and RFID applications. Such services include: a) study and research in smart card and RFID standards and new application areas; b) consulting and engineering services; and c) customization and system integration for smart card and RFID applications.
MERDCI’s Smart Card and RFID Group has proven experience in design of a GSM SIM card for mobile communication applications and a smart bank card, along with the design of all associated software components needed for a total system solution offering. Both these products were commercialized and are currently in use. Current activities of the Smart Card and RFID Group include:
- Implementation of a smart identification card to be used for secure access to physical facilities, secure access to a computer network, and document authentication and authorization via use of digital signatures.
- Feasibility study of a multi-purpose smart card and determination of specification for few target applications, per customer’s requirement.
- Creation of a VPN to address the needs of e-Banking and e-Commerce.
- Offering consulting services for emerging RF ID applications, particularly as it applied to time-stamped entry/exit registration for staff, vehicles, components and equipment in plants, warehouses and buildings.
